Thermo Modified Wood (also known as Thermo Wood) is a chemical-free process to create more durable, hard-wearing timber. From decking to cladding, Thermo Wood is being used across industries in the UK as an eco-friendly timber treatment. At EcoChoice, we can source and supply Thermo Modified Wood species for your construction projects.
Thermo Wood For Your Project
For domestic, commercial and public construction projects which need tougher timber, we can supply you with a wide range of Thermo Modified timber species. These include:
- Frake
- Ash
- Spruce
- Redwood
- Radiata pine
If you do not see your preferred timber species on this list, get in touch with us and we will let you know if it is suitable for Thermo Modification.
What Is Thermo Modified Wood?
Thermo Wood is not a type of timber in itself, but a treatment for timber species which involves no staining or painting. Instead, the timber is subjected to intense heat and vapour, which creates a tougher, longer-lasting product by altering the core of the timber itself.
To create Thermo Wood, the timber is placed in a kiln and heated up to 180℃. Vapour is introduced to stop the timber from splitting in the kiln whilst chemical changes take place within the structure of the timber. When finished, the wood has different qualities which make it suitable for your construction.
Benefits of Thermo Modified Wood
Using heat to toughen timber has been a chemical-free treatment used for centuries. It is a traditional, eco-friendly solution to creating durable species for above-ground use. By removing the moisture, your timber will be less susceptible to rot, swelling and cracking with humidity changes. Thermo Modified wood also:
- Stops fungal growth on the timber
- Has a longer lifespan
- Is a better insulator
