Ecochoice was chosen to supply all the timber for the River Clyst Boardwalk in Topsham, near Exeter.
The boardwalk and cyclepath crosses the delicate RSPB protected area of Bowling Green marsh, so all care was necessary with design and installation to avoid disrupting the local fauna.
Devon County Council required a lightweigth yet very durable solution for the decking planks, with the extra layer of anti-slip strips to avoid any problems in the long-term. Ecochoice supplied thousands of custom made strength graded deck boards, treated to the highest possible level to ensure a long service life. Each board was also fitted with two anti-slip strips.
The deck boards were supplied pre-deilled and in fixed lengths. This helped to achieve rapid fixing and so minimize site disturbance to the animals in the RSPB protected area. These boards were then screwed to FSC certified Ekki joists. Ekki is one of the hardest and most durable hardwood available (we use it to build bridges, lock gates and sea defence), so this choice ensures less worry with rot and strength over the coming 50 years.
Ecochoice were also asked to deliver PAR Ekki slats to work as fencing and handrails along the bridge over the river Clyst.
In all the project was considered a huge success by the client and we’re very proud to have played a major role in it.
